Wigan Bristol City prediction 2022-08-13

Wigan vs Bristol City prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-08-12 14:00.
Two points after as many Championship games represents a solid if unremarkable start for newly-promoted Wigan, with a 1-1 draw against recently-relegated Norwich last time out catching the eye. Wigan squandered the advantage then, but the omens may be better should they strike first against Bristol City as the side that’s opened the scoring has won the last five H2Hs at this venue.

Wigan only came out on the winning side in two of those five home H2Hs though (L3), but having alternated between a win and a loss throughout that five-game period, and losing the last such game, history would hint towards a Wigan victory here. It’s unlikely to prove that simple for the Latics, but if they are to claim a first Championship victory of the season then it could well be accompanied by a clean sheet, as Wigan secured a shutout in seven of their last eight second tier home games (W5, D3).

Bristol City’s season couldn’t have got off to a much worse start, with successive defeats to open their Championship campaign souring what had been a positive pre-season for Nigel Pearson’s side. A trip to the North West is unlikely to provide any let-up for the Robins either, who have won just three Championship games on the road in 2022 (D1, L9).

All ten winless away league outings in 2022 saw Bristol City concede at least twice, although perhaps of more concern is that five of those saw Pearson’s side take the lead (D1, L4). However, there’s a case to be made that Robins fans are rarely short-changed where entertainment is concerned, with the eight goals seen in their two league games so far making them the league’s premier entertainers ahead of the round, though they’d probably prefer to see more dull displays if it was to deliver points on the board going forward.

Players to watch: James McClean has scored Wigan’s only Championship goal so far and his last four league goalscoring appearances saw exactly two goals in the game. Meanwhile, Bristol City talisman Andreas Weimann has picked up where he left off last season and has netted two first-half league goals so far.

Hot stat: The home side on the day has scored exactly two goals in all three of Nigel Pearson’s personal H2Hs against Wigan (W1, D1, L1).
