West Brom vs Hull prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-08-19 14:00.
West Bromwich Albion haven’t begun the campaign like a side labelled among the pre-season favourites for promotion, quite the opposite actually, with a lacklustre 0-0 draw with Cardiff in midweek ensuring they remain winless (D3, L1) and they now sit in the relegation zone. It’s still early days, but manager Steve Bruce has recognised the need to address what he calls a lack of creativity in attack.
Bruce left nothing to the imagination when referring to looking elsewhere for a solution to his side’s goalscoring troubles, saying “we still have two and a half weeks to go. We'll see what becomes available”. He’ll be hoping the arrival of one of his former employers in Hull City to the Hawthorns can offer temporary relief though, as the Baggies have won six consecutive home H2Hs, while scoring 3+ goals on four occasions.
Their opponents, on the other hand, are flying high after a recent 1-1 draw with Burnley maintained their undefeated start to the season (W2, D2). Hull have never gone the first five games of a league campaign unbeaten since their rise to the first- or second-tier of English football this century, and doing so will surely force the bookies to continue slashing their odds as playoff candidates.
Their two draws so far have come away from home though, adding to an early EFL Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Bradford City on their travels too. That shouldn’t stop the Tigers’ fearless nature when hitting the road as betting underdogs, having lost only three of their last 11 Championship away matches when starting as the outsider (W3, D5).
Players to watch: West Brom’s Karlan Grant scored all three goals against Hull last season and has also been their first goalscorer with his two strikes this term. Hull will be hoping Óscar Estupiñán can continue his bright start to the season (G2, A1), after seeing six of his last eight league goals serve as match openers.
Hot stat: The result was the same at full-time as it was at half-time in nine of West Brom’s last 11 Championship matches.
