Chelsea West Ham prediction 2022-09-03

Chelsea vs West Ham prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2022-09-02 14:00.
Manager Thomas Tuchel pulled no punches in his assessment of Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Southampton, branding his team as “soft”. It’s easy to see why Tuchel may be displeased with the manner of defeat, but the visit of West Ham could prove timely for Chelsea to defy their boss' assessment considering the Blues have won three of the last four H2Hs ‘to nil’ (L1).

A win is seemingly needed for Chelsea to keep pace with their fellow top-four challengers following their faltering start to the season (W2, D1, L2), and after the near £200 million warchest Tuchel was given to spend over the summer, pressure could well be building. You’d be brave to bet against Chelsea bouncing back here though, with the addition of £75 million defender Wesley Fofana potentially boosting Tuchel’s bid to avoid losing back-to-back Premier League (PL) games for the first time in his tenure.

West Ham come into their second London derby of the week after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Tottenham in midweek. David Moyes’ side showed grit and determination to fight back from a goal down to claim a share of the spoils, though that result did go against the grain of their other four PL games this season, all of which saw the side that scored first win the game with an accompanying clean sheet (WHU: W1, L3).

Another gritty performance may be needed here ahead of Moyes’ 45th managerial meeting against Chelsea, more times than he’s faced against any other side, albeit with success extremely limited so far (W7, D12, L25). Interestingly, Moyes has never overseen a PL win at Stamford Bridge and with West Ham winning just two of their last ten PL away games (D1, L7), it’s hard to see his dismal run ending here.

Players to watch: Raheem Sterling is off the mark for Chelsea, and has opened the scoring in both of his scoring appearances this season. Similarly, each of Tomáơ Souček’s last five PL goals have been West Ham’s first of the game.

Hot stat: Both teams have scored in seven of Chelsea’s last eight PL home games.
