PSV Bodo/Glimt prediction 2022-09-08

PSV vs Bodo/Glimt prediction: EUROPE: Europa League – Group Stage betting tips on match 2022-09-07 16:45.
After missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification with defeat to Rangers in the play-off qualification round, Ruud van Nistelrooy must settle for leading his PSV side to a record-equalling tenth UEFA Europa League (UEL) group stage appearance. His team suffered their first domestic defeat of the season last time out against Twente (2-1) but will be hopeful of a resurgence after scoring at least twice in five of their last six UEL proper home games (W4, D1, L1).

PSV missed out on UEL group stage progression last term but that was only the fourth time in nine attempts that they were eliminated at the group stage. A strong start here is by no means assured either, with PSV failing to win three of their last five UEL group stage home openers (D1, L2), conceding twice in three of the last four such encounters.

Arguably the breakout stars on the European stage last season, two-time consecutive Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt make their UEL group stage debut after reaching the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter finals last term. That run included an unbeaten group stage with a 100% win-rate at home and a 100% draw rate away, whilst two wins from four games against eventual champions Roma undoubtedly caught the eye (D1, L1).

Despite the positives, Bodø/Glimt have failed to win 15 of their 17 European away games during this century (D6, L9), a run which includes a winless streak during European qualifying this season (D1, L3), often against ‘lesser’ opponents than PSV. Sandwiched between those winless European trips are four domestic away wins, something Kjetil Knutsen’s men now seek to emulate in the UEL.

Players to watch: Former Heerenveen teammates of 2019/20 are reunited here as PSV midfielder Joey Veerman meets Bodø/Glimt striker Runar Espejord. Both players scored at least twice during European qualifying, and both of Veerman’s strikes were match openers.

Hot stat: PSV are unbeaten in eight of their nine encounters against Norwegian opponents (W5, D3, L1).
