FC Koln Union Berlin prediction 2022-09-11

FC Koln vs Union Berlin prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-09-10 13:30.
It has been a brilliant start to the season on the pitch for Cologne, who remain unbeaten after five Bundesliga rounds (W2, D3) for the first time since a similar start in 2016/17 on the way to a fifth-placed finish. The Billy Goats didn’t have to contend with a coinciding European campaign that year, but they did open their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign well with a 1-1 draw in Nice during midweek, though the evening was undoubtedly marred by violent scenes in the stands.

This is only the second time under Steffen Baumgart’s stewardship that Cologne have managed five-straight unbeaten league games, with the first ending in spectacular style with a 5-0 away defeat! A repeat humbling seems unlikely this time around though, with just one of Baumgart’s seven H2Hs with Urs Fischer’s Union Berlin settled by a multi-goal margin (W2, D3, L2).

While Union didn’t quite begin their European campaign as they’d like after a shock UEFA Europa League 1-0 defeat to Royale Union SG, they continue to make history week on week in the Bundesliga. Union are now unbeaten in an ever-extending club record 12 consecutive Bundesliga games following a 1-1 draw with ten-time consecutive champions Bayern Munich last time out, prompting iconic Bayern midfielder Thomas Müller to state “I enjoy watching Union, they stand tall on the pitch”.

That club record unbeaten Bundesliga run includes five away games (W4, D1), and comes despite keeping just one clean sheet and having to come from behind to win once across that sequence. Should this game fall into a similar rhythm, the Iron Ones’ front line must show their mettle as they so often do having scored twice in the last three away H2Hs and six times in their latest away game against Schalke!

Players to watch: Steffen Tigges scored his first goal since making the switch from Dortmund to Cologne in midweek, yet his side failed to win in his last five scoring appearances (D3, L2). As for Union, Sheraldo Becker has contributed to seven goals across the opening five Bundesliga rounds (G5, A2), which is already his highest scoring return in a German campaign!

Hot stat: Union are yet to fall behind in league action this season, while Cologne have picked up five points from losing positions already (W1, D2).
