Preston vs Burnley prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-12 19:00.
Preston finally get their first taste of a âLanclasicoâ this season on Tuesday night, as they welcome Burnley to Deepdale bidding to avoid a third-successive home H2H defeat for the first time in history. With not only the record, but bragging rights on the line, perhaps Burnleyâs visit isnât a timely one for Preston, who finally conceded their first league goal of the season after 646 minutes of play in their 1-0 defeat to Birmingham last time out.
North End have had ten days to stew on that defeat after the weekend's postponement, and now go again in search of a first home league win and goal of the season (D3, L1). When Preston boss Ryan Lowe asked whether he would change the system to find that elusive goal he simply answered ânoâ but he knows another toothless display would see Preston become the first second-tier team ever to fail to score in their opening five home league games of a season.
With Vincent Kompany bemoaning his sideâs energy levels in the aftermath of Burnleyâs 1-1 draw with West Brom in their last outing, an extended break may well suit Burnley. Three games in six days culminating in stalemate in the Midlands had taken it out of the Clarets, but five Championship games unbeaten (W2, D3) and backed by around 5500 travelling fans here, a well-rested Burnley side should make the short trip West in a buoyant mood.
However, a pending EFL investigation over the clubâs ownership threatens to dampen that mood, as does Burnleyâs decisively average record at Deepdale this century (W3, D1, L7). The first league meeting between these sides since April 2016 should be a tight affair though, with each of the last four Deepdale H2Hs settled by just a single-goal margin (W2, L2), three via a 2-1 scoreline.
Players to watch: Prestonâs Robbie Brady faces his former club, against whom he has won just one of six personal H2Hs (L5). Meanwhile, Burnleyâs Jay Rodriguez has scored in each of his last two Championship away appearances and could now score in three-successive away league appearances for the first time since December 2013.
Hot stat: Preston have lost just two of their 12 games officiated by Peter Bankes (W7, D3).
