Lithuania vs Faroe Islands prediction: EUROPE: UEFA Nations League – League C betting tips on match 2022-09-21 18:45.
Lithuania’s four-game losing start to this UEFA Nations League (UNL) campaign means they are now incapable of gaining promotion from League C, and instead approach their final two UNL assignments as prime candidates to face a relegation play-out. Home soil offers little foreseeable respite either, with losses here this term against Turkey (6-0) and Luxembourg (2-0) after trailing at half-time in each.
The current situation perhaps fairly reflects Lithuania’s standing as FIFA’s lowest ranked team of Group C1 (#142). Yet, with opponents Faroe Islands ranked just 17 places higher (#125), this seems like a much more winnable game, especially in light of the all-time H2H advantage Lithuania boast over the opposition (W7, D1, L2).
While the Faroe Islands cannot be promoted either, they will be eager to repeat the heroics that got them a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture back in June and avoid all possibility of relegation. Though after a journey of more than 3,000km to a nation in which they have never won (D1, L4), it’s hard to see where the Faroe Islands can draw confidence from.
More defensive discipline will be required on hostile turf, but it’s been in short supply lately, with the Islanders taking just one clean sheet in their last eight UNL outings. Because of their porous backline, the Faroe Islands are also winless in four UNL trips abroad (D3, L1), though all three draws admirably saw them recover from a deficit.
Players to watch: Fedor Černych netted a quickfire double beyond the 80th minute against Bulgaria last October, to seal what is still Lithuania’s most recent home win. As for fellow midfielder Jákup Andreasen, he scored the winner for the Faroe Islands in the reverse clash, netting his maiden international goal.
Hot stat: Three of Lithuania’s four prior UNL home goals have arrived on or beyond the 75th minute.
