Freiburg Mainz prediction 2022-10-01

Freiburg vs Mainz prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-09-30 13:30.
A pair of league draws before the international break will not hamper Freiburg’s spirit as the only time they enjoyed a better return after seven rounds (W4, D2, L1) of a Bundesliga campaign was last season! The Bundesliga’s longest-serving manager, Christian Streich, might be able to aim higher than his initial goal for the campaign which was to simply survive, especially if they can maintain their flying start both domestically and on the European stage too (W2).

He might look to manage expectations for now though, especially when considering that his side, who finished sixth last season, followed up their last top-six finish with a lowly 14th place back in 2013/14, in what was Streich’s third season in charge. After over a decade at the helm, Streich is yet to oversee three straight goalless draws in league action, and a repeat of that scoreline would be only the eighth time in Bundesliga history that it has happened to any side!

Mainz haven’t played out a stalemate since matchday two, so expect goals in this one. Manager Bo Svensson will hope they fall his side’s way though given they’ve failed to win three of their last four league games (D1, L2), yet Mainz‘s 11-point return at this stage still represents a better start than they made in the 2015/16 campaign en-route to their highest league finish across the last decade (6th), and with Svensson unbeaten against Freiburg (W1, D2), a resurgent performance may be expected.

The 05ers enter this round as the lowest scoring top-half side, yet a sturdy defence often helped to make their slim goal tally count with Mainz restricting their opponents to a goal or less in all of their opening four competitive away games. That was until they conceded four in their most recent away trip to Hoffenheim, and with rumours of a potential move to the Premier League for Svensson now quashed, focus can turn to bouncing back from that here.

Players to watch: Freiburg’s Michael Gregoritsch and Mainz’s Karim Onisiwo face off after each donning the Austrian colours in a pair of defeats over the international break, both players are tied on three Bundesliga goals apiece.

Hot streak: Freiburg have found the net in every one of their historical home Bundesliga H2Hs (W5, D2, L6).
