Schalke Augsburg prediction 2022-10-02

Schalke vs Augsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-10-01 15:30.
The final Bundesliga fixture of round eight sees Schalke attempt to put the relative disappointment of the Revierderby defeat against Dortmund behind them, though in truth a 1-0 scoreline was perhaps a little flattering given the recent gulf between the sides. There are positives ahead of this clash though, as Schalke now seek their first pair of back-to-back Bundesliga home wins for the first time since 2019 after their 3-1 victory over Bochum last time out here.

That victory helped to ease the nerves of those drawing cautious comparisons to the infamous relegation season of 2020/21, but replicating that season’s results against Augsburg, who were the side that Schalke picked up the most points against (W1, D1), certainly wouldn’t go amiss. Worryingly though, the 1-0 H2H win in the corresponding fixture that season remains Schalke’s only Bundesliga win across their last 11 played on a Sunday (D5, L5).

Perennial strugglers Augsburg seem to have turned a corner of late by notching a pair of back-to-back Bundesliga victories for the first time since April, wins which directly followed their third-worst five-game Bundesliga start (W1, L4)! The most recent of those victories was a mightily impressive 1-0 Bavarian derby win over ten-time consecutive champions Bayern Munich, a victory which ended their opponent’s 87-game scoring streak of Bundesliga games!

However not since 2019 have Augsburg won three consecutive Bundesliga games, and as the side with the fewest shots on target in the league (20), Augsburg will have to make their chances count if they’re to match that. A notable uptick in away form should boost their hopes of doing so, with Augsburg winning as many contests across their last five travelling Bundesliga games (W3, L2) as they did in 25 league trips prior.

Players to watch: Sebastian Polter scored his first goal for Schalke in their only league win this term and he has an impressive four goal contributions in seven personal H2Hs with Augsburg (G2, A2). As for Augsburg, MĂ«rgim Berisha has proven instrumental with a goal involvement in their last two 1-0 wins (G1, A1).

Hot stat: Schalke boss Frank Kramer has faced only three sides more often than Augsburg without winning a game (D2, L2).
