Malmo FF vs Union Berlin prediction: EUROPE: Europa League – Group Stage betting tips on match 2022-10-05 16:45.
Malmö’s fourth appearance in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) group stages hasn’t proven a fruitful one so far, losing both their opening Group D matches after surrendering the lead twice to eventually lose 3-2 against Royale Union in their last UEL outing. That result extends a worrying trend for Malmö, who are now winless in their last ten games in major European competition (D1, L9).
Things have gone a little better for the Blue Ones since the loss to Royale Union though, winning and drawing their last two matches in the Swedish top-flight. They’ll be looking forward to a complete reset when they face Union Berlin for the first ever time here, as despite only beating German opposition three times in 12 attempts (D3, L6), all three of those victories came at home.
Union Berlin themselves need to amass a fresh attitude towards their first ever season in the UEL group stages, having also lost their opening two fixtures, making this a must win for both sides. In fact, despite Union’s impressive Bundesliga showing this term they are actually one of only two teams yet to score in this season's UEL, contributing to their last five games seeing only one team find the net.
That may spell trouble for the Iron Ones, who have been more than rusty on their European travels, losing three of their last four away matches on the continental stage (W1). Urs Fischer’s side have also never faced Swedish opposition before, but the Bundesliga leaders should be confident and will be looking to stamp their authority after losing only twice in their last eight away matches (W5, D1).
Players to watch: Malmö’s Isaac Kiese Thelin has shown he’s never to be discounted, with four of his last five goals all coming after half-time, while Union’s chances of success greatly improve when Sheraldo Becker gets on the scoresheet as they’ve lost only one of the 14 matches he’s found the net (W11, D2).
Hot stat: There’s been goals during both halves in six of Malmö’s last seven matches.
