Nantes vs Brest prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2022-10-15 13:00.
Things are going from bad to worse for Nantes of late, with a 4-0 defeat against Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) during midweek extending their winless run to seven games (D1, L6). As if staring down the barrel of a group stage UEL exit wasn’t bad enough, there’s no relief on the domestic front either, with Nantes currently enduring their worst ten-match Ligue 1 start (W1, D4, L5) since 2006/07.
Ominously Nantes finished rock-bottom that season and need some results fast if they are to avoid plunging further towards replicating that unwanted feat. Perhaps Brest visit at an opportune time then, with Nantes winning ten of their previous 12 Ligue 1 home H2Hs (D1, L1) so expect the Canaries to come out fighting after boss Antoine Kombouaré’s recent rallying cry where he insisted his side will “do what it takes to win this first final that awaits us on Sunday”.
If Nantes thought their league start to the season was bad, Brest are the only side who can statistically say theirs is worse, as they sit 20th as the only side below Nantes in the Ligue 1 table (W1, D3, L6). While there was no disgrace in losing 2-1 to high-flying Lorient last time out, squandering a 1-0 lead for the third time this season (D2, L1) would’ve been a bitter pill to swallow for then-Brest boss Michel Der Zakarian.
That result proved to be the final straw for Der Zakarian who was relieved of his duties during the week, leaving reserve team manager Bruno Grougi to fill in as caretaker boss ahead of the weekend. In a bizzare plot twist, Grougi was actually sent off in his team's last game so he won’t be allowed on the touchline to pull the tactical strings in search of Brest’s first Ligue 1 clean sheet of the season.
Players to watch: An eye watering 545 minutes of play have passed since a Nantes player last scored a goal. Moses Simon got it and he has also contributed to three goals (G1, A2) in his last four appearances against Brest. Romain Del Castillo was on the scoresheet for Brest against Lorient, with two of his last three Ligue 1 goals coming from the penalty spot.
Hot streak: Both teams have scored in the last eight league H2Hs, with those games averaging 3.5 goals.
