Julien StĂ©phan admits he is “fed up” of bad refereeing decisions that are preventing his Strasbourg side from pulling clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone. The manager was left furious last weekend when, having clawed back from 2-0 down, his side were – in StĂ©phan’s view – denied a blatant penalty in the 90th minute during a 2-2 draw with ten-man Toulouse.
That result means Racing have still only picked up one win from 12 games this season (D6, L5), while they have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five outings. Worryingly, they also remain one of only three teams yet to pick up a home win in Ligue 1, with Stade de la Meinau witnessing three stalemates and three away victories so far this season.
To make matters worse for Strasbourg, they host Marseille this weekend, a team who they have failed to beat in 13 league attempts since 2005 (D5, L8). That record may provide some confidence to the visitors, who are looking to avoid a fourth successive loss for the first time since January 2021, form which has pushed them out of the Champions League places.
That form has piled the pressure on manager Igor Tudor, but he insists his team put in “one of their best” performances of the season as they lost 1-0 to high-flying Lens last weekend. That was followed by a 2-1 reverse at Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, but they have generally been strong on the road in Ligue 1, picking up three wins in five outings (D1, L1) and conceding just two goals – only PSG have a better defensive record.
Players to watch: Habib Diallo is Strasbourg’s top scorer with five goals in 12 games this season, but has never netted against or beaten Marseille in seven attempts (D3, L4). Meanwhile OM’s Jonathan Clauss has lost three of his four H2H clashes with Racing, with each defeat ending 1-0!
