Schalke Freiburg prediction 2022-10-30

Schalke vs Freiburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-10-29 16:30.
Following the dismissal of Frank Kramer after a rotten start to life back in the Bundesliga (W1, D3, L7), rock-bottom Schalke have moved swiftly to appoint Thomas Reis as their new manager. Some may see it as a curious appointment as Reis was dismissed by local rivals Bochum last month after a losing six-game start to the league season, yet board member Peter Knäbel is “convinced Thomas is exactly the right man for this job”.

It was actually Schalke’s last win that proved to be the final straw for Reis at Bochum, but Schalke have lost every game at any venue since that 3-1 success (L6). First on his agenda will be putting a plug in a leaky backline as Schalke are yet to keep a clean sheet here this season, conceding at least twice in all but one home game.

While Schalke enter a new era, Freiburg are almost 12 years deep into the Christian Streich reign. That stability has proven fruitful for the club that occupied third place following a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen last round. A 1-1 draw with Olympiacos in midweek confirmed Freiburg’s first ever qualification from a European group stage and with top-spot confirmed, Streich can afford to play a full strength team and rest players next week.

Playing away from home hasn’t hampered Freiburg’s chances for the most part this season, with the only negative in an otherwise unbeaten travelling record coming in a 5-0 mauling by Bayern Munich on their latest trip (W6, D2). Streich admitted that his side “didn’t have the gas to keep up with them [Bayern]” but he’ll hope to get his men revved up this time to extend their six-game unbeaten run of H2Hs (W4, D2).

Players to watch: Sebastian Polter scored the goal which ultimately spelled the end of Reis’ managerial spell at Bochum last month, and he’s assisted a goal in his last two games. As for Freiburg, Michael Gregoritsch can equal his goal tally from the entirety of last season with a ninth competitive strike here, although only two of his eight this term were decisive.

Hot streak: Defeat here will set an unwanted club record for Schalke’s longest losing streak across all competitions (currently L6).
