Huddersfield Sunderland prediction 2022-11-02

Huddersfield vs Sunderland prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-11-01 19:45.
The survival prospects of Huddersfield Town were boosted following a 1-0 win over Millwall at the weekend, with “Japanese left-sided centre back” Yuta Nakayama scoring the winner, ensuring that boss Mark Fotheringham won’t forget his name again anytime soon. Fotheringham highlighted that he now has three clean sheets in his reign, and said that his defenders have “stood up to be counted” with a steely-looking backline enjoying a 220 minute run without conceding.

Despite still remaining in the drop zone, turning the John Smith’s Stadium into a fortress could be key to Huddersfield’s escape. The Terriers haven’t scored more than twice in a home Championship game since mid-August (W4, D1, L4 this term), but they won’t have to if Fotheringham's top aim is defensive solidity. Striking first appears paramount for Huddersfield however, as in none of their home league games did the side netting the opener go on to lose.

Fighting back from behind to draw 1-1 at Luton last time out stopped Sunderland’s run of successive defeats, but they need wins if they’re to climb out of the gaggle of sides in mid-table after a run of just one victory from the last five games (D1, L3). Having now reached the impressive milestone of 800 games in management, Tony Mowbray will hope to mark number 801 with a victory.

Mowbray may have to tinker to achieve that aim as despite having the most settled starting XI with just 17 changes made all season, the Black Cats have struggled to build up a head of steam. With this being the first league meeting between Sunderland and Huddersfield this century, it’s anyone’s guess if the visitors can end a four-game travelling winless streak here in Yorkshire!

Players to watch: Jordan Rhodes already has as many goals this term for Huddersfield (four) as he managed in the entirety of last season, and he could go one better here as seven of his last nine goals came at home. With Ross Stewart still out, Sunderland’s Elliot Embleton could step up. He’s scored in two of his last four appearances, and three of his four goal contributions this season came away from home.

Hot streak: Huddersfield are yet to pick up a point when conceding the opener this season (L8).
