Mainz Wolfsburg prediction 2022-11-05

Mainz vs Wolfsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-11-04 14:30.
Results have been extreme of late for Mainz, who followed up a 5-0 success over Cologne with a 6-2 defeat to Bayern Munich last time out. Bo Svensson’s men have made an identical start after 12 matches as they did last term (W5, D3, L4), with the fans hungry to go one better than their eighth-place finish last season and qualify for Europe for the first time since 2016.

Key to realising that dream will be an improvement on home soil, with the 05ers winning just one of their first five games at the MEWA Arena this term (D3, L1). Only three Bundesliga teams have accrued fewer points from their home games this season than Mainz, a far cry from last season’s record where only two teams had a higher tally. This may not be the best fixture to start a revival either, with Mainz winning just four of 16 home H2Hs against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga (D6, L6).

Niko Kovač’s men appear primed to extend that record after a five-match unbeaten Bundesliga streak has eased Wolfsburg away from the relegation zone (W2, D3). A 4-0 mauling of struggling Bochum proved further vindication of the Croatian’s tactical switch that has seen the Wolves score 12 goals from those five league games, after netting just five from the previous seven.

If their climb up the table is to continue, an improvement on the road may well be necessary, as Wolfsburg have won just three Bundesliga away games in 2022 (D4, L8), and were beaten 3-0 here last December. That was their only away H2H loss in the last six meetings though (W2, D3), and another positive result here could move them closer to the European places.

Key battle: Mainz forward Karim Onisiwo has netted four times this season, twice scoring the game’s final goal, but is yet to score from his 11 career meetings with Wolfsburg. That will be music to the ears of Wolves’ goalkeeper Koen Casteels, who has lost just one of 12 personal meetings with the 05ers (W4, D7), keeping a joint-career high six clean sheets along the way.

Hot stat: The last five H2Hs have produced 19 goals, an average of 3.8 per match!
