Millwall Rotherham prediction 2023-01-01

Millwall vs Rotherham prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-12-31 15:00.
A lacklustre goalless draw with Bristol City saw Millwall drop out of the top six at the end of 2022, so their first New Year’s resolution will be to bounce back with a win. Manager Gary Rowett stated that his men need to “show a bit more quality” against sides that play with a back five, so they’ll get another crack against a Rotherham side that typically play with three centre backs.

Some impressive home league form has been responsible for Millwall’s promising season (W7, D3, L2), and only two sides have picked up more home points than the Lions so far. With four Millwall wins across the last six league games held on New Year’s Day too, Rowett may be expecting to continue a few positive trends, including his own dominant personal record against the Millers (W6, D4, L1).

The aptly-named visitors have been put through the proverbial mill of late as a 2-0 loss against then-bottom Huddersfield in midweek extended their winless run to five league games. After 15 games in charge and just three wins (W3, D4, L8), Rotherham manager Matt Taylor’s comments after their latest defeat about players being “really low physically, as well as mentally," appear to be worrying.

That may go some way to explaining Rotherham’s poor travelling form this Championship campaign (W2, D5, L6). Now without a goal in over four hours of away league play, Rotherham will do well to even get on the scoresheet against a Millwall side that have kept a clean sheet in three of the last four H2Hs held at The Den.

Players to watch: Millwall’s Zian Flemming has scored in five of Millwall’s ten league wins this season, including the winning goal in three. Trying to match him will be Rotherham’s Chiedozie Ogbene, albeit the unlucky forward has made four goal contributions since the beginning of November but only once in victory (W1, D1, L2).

Hot streak: Rotherham have won their opening league game in each of the last four calendar years.
