Watford Rotherham prediction 2023-01-21

Watford vs Rotherham prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-01-20 15:00.
Watford’s 17-year-old sensation Tobi Adeyemo struck his first senior goal in a 2-0 win over Blackpool last Saturday as the Hornets continue to tussle with a host of sides for a top-six spot. Consistent results have been a concern with Slaven Bilić’s side, but having won consecutive league matches ‘to-nil’, Watford could now record three such league victories in a row for the first time since December 2015 when they were in the Premier League!

Even without the added incentive of securing that record, Watford need to improve their recent indifferent form at Vicarage Road (W2, D1, L2) if they are to maintain a stronghold on a playoff spot. A better effort in front of goal could help, as the goal-shy Hornets have failed to score in three of those five games.

Though Rotherham perhaps don’t look the toughest opponent on paper with the visitors winless in nine H2Hs (W6, D3) since February 2003, the Millers are likely to travel in a buoyant mood after thrashing another playoff hopeful Blackburn Rovers 4-0 last Saturday. Manager Matt Taylor’s rallying call that Rothertham were “in the fight of their lives” clearly did the trick as his side responded with a goal after 33 seconds, their seventh strike within the first ten minutes in this league campaign.

Taylor may need a similar war cry to improve their away fortunes having won just once across their last eight Championship away games (D2, L5), including three straight losses. Each of those defeats came with an accompanying scoring blank and ominously for Rotherham, they haven’t scored in their last four away H2Hs as they seek to extend their four-point cushion to the relegation zone.

Players to watch: Watford’s Ismaïla Sarr has a 100% win-record against Rotherham (W2) and has scored the game’s last goal with his last three strikes in the Championship. Preferring to do his scoring early, Rotherham’s Richard Wood has seen three of his last four league goals arrive within the first half-hour, including the Millers’ goal in the 1-1 reverse fixture.

Hot streak: Watford haven’t scored before half-time in eight consecutive matches in all competitions.
