B. Monchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-01-21 16:30.
After making over 270 appearances for the club, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s preparations for this clash have been rocked by the news that Yann Sommer will depart for Bayern Munich. It’s hardly a surprise after his Bundesliga-record 19 saves in a single game against Bayern earlier in the season, but it’s a big issue for a Gladbach side who are already without a league clean sheet since September. They’ve seemingly moved quickly though, with Montpellier keeper Jonas Omlin reportedly set to sign.

A home game in the immediacy of that crushing blow could be the antidote Gladbach need to bounce back, with only RB Leipzig (19) claiming more home league points than Gladbach’s 18 this season ahead of the round. The visit of Bayer Leverkusen could throw a spanner in the works though, with Gladbach losing the last five Bundesliga H2Hs, conceding at least twice in four of those games.

The World Cup and winter break probably came at a bad time for Leverkusen, who had just started to find their feet with three successive league wins. But as they return to action after some extended time on the training field with Xabi Alonso, who is still in the early stages of his tenure, Leverkusen should be raring to go again in search of a fourth-straight league win for the first time since May 2022.

Yet securing that feat on the road may prove problematic, with Leverkusen winning just one of their last five away league games (D1, L3). Encouragingly, that sole win did come during their last league trip (2-1 vs Cologne), and having scored more Bundesliga goals against Gladbach (152) than against any other club, Leverkusen will believe back-to-back away league wins for the first time this season could be on the cards.

Players to watch: Currently on ten Bundesliga goals this season, Gladbach’s Marcus Thuram is just one away from securing his best-ever return in the German top-flight. After being compared to Lionel Messi by Alonso, Florian Wirtz is set to make a return to action after a long injury lay-off having won all three of his prior games against Gladbach, setting up three goals in the process.

Hot streak: Gladbach’s last eight league games have seen both teams score.
