Wigan Huddersfield prediction 2023-02-11

Wigan vs Huddersfield prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-02-10 15:00.
With the relegation dogfight slowly coming to the boil, this clash between Wigan and Huddersfield – both of whom sit in the bottom three – certainly has the feel of a ‘six-pointer’. Time is fast running out for basement side Wigan, though they did show signs of encouragement in Shaun Maloney’s first game in charge, drawing 0-0 against play-off-chasing Blackburn.

However, the Latics need wins, and fast. One victory in 16 league games (D4, L11) has all the hallmarks of a side who are heading straight back to League One. That’s perhaps where the Wigan faithful come in, with Maloney insisting the fans “will be there for us”, but with five home losses on the bounce, Latics fans will start to wonder where their next victory is coming from.

This is the second massive away game in the space of a week for Huddersfield, who missed a huge opportunity to climb out of the bottom three in midweek as they twice surrendered a lead in a 2-2 draw against ten-man Blackpool. That result spelled the end of boss Mark Fotheringham’s brief spell in charge, with Narcís Pùlach tasked with overseeing Town’s second trip in quick succession to the North West.

The now jobless Fotheringham labelled Huddersfield’s second half performance a “disgrace” at Blackpool, and perhaps highlights the size of the job awaiting Huddersfield’s next permanent boss. For now though, Pùlach must try to unite a fractious club, but one small consolation comes in Huddersfield having only tasted defeat in one of their last four travelling league games (W1, D2), hinting at the fact they have stomach for the fight.

Key battle: Will Keane is the only current Wigan player to have scored across their last five league games, with both goals serving to make the score 1-1. Trying to nullify his threat, Huddersfield’s Tom Lees has lost three of his last four personal H2Hs against Wigan, but he did score in the reverse fixture (L 2-1).

Hot streak: Huddersfield have scored exactly once on their last four visits to Wigan (W2, D1, L1).
