Hull vs Burnley prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-03-14 19:45.
A 1-1 draw against Coventry at the weekend continued Hull City’s indifferent run of form, with a run of just one win from their last six league outings (D3, L2) diffusing any lingering play-off ambitions. Dropping two points from a leading position wasn’t the only blotch on Hull’s day out at Coventry, with boss Liam Rosenior left “devastated” as Benjamin Tetteh suffered another serious looking injury having spent most the season on the treatment table.
Things don’t get much easier for Rosenior either as table-topping Burnley are next up for Hull, a side the Tigers have beaten just once in the last seven home H2Hs (D1, L5). They are at least defending an unbeaten record in Championship action at the KCOM since November (W3, D4), though any victory here to improve that recent H2H record likely won’t be enough to avoid their season ending in mid-table mediocrity.
Burnley’s season will almost certainly be ending in an instant return to the Premier League, something that may have piqued the interest of former NFL star JJ Watt, who is reportedly set to invest in the club. Now a whopping 17 points clear of third place Middlesbrough coming into the round after a 3-0 victory over Wigan at the weekend, it would need an almighty collapse for the Clarets to be caught.
Boss Vincent Kompany reinstated on Saturday that his side are “only 21st in England”, and while climbing the footballing pyramid remains the long-term goal, in the short term Burnley know nine wins from their last ten league games will see them claim the Championship points record, while 20 points from those remaining games would see them become the first second-tier side since Leicester in 2013/14 to hit the 100-point mark.
Players to watch: Óscar Estupiñán was on the goal trail for the first time since January against Coventry, his seventh successive goal to arrive in the second half. Ashley Barnes is the only remaining member of the last Burnley squad to win at Hull back in 2015 and he has opened the scoring after the break in his three league scoring appearances this season.
Hot streak: Hull haven’t conceded a home league goal in 429 minutes of play.
