Wigan Millwall prediction 2023-04-22

Wigan vs Millwall prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-04-21 14:00.
Wigan Athletic maintained their Championship status for the moment with a gutsy 1-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, although the league’s bottom side are still cut well adrift with only three games remaining. A defiant manager Shaun Maloney said afterwards that if his side can replicate that performance for the rest of the season then “anything is possible”, but having so often been the great escapists, this would probably be Wigan’s best yet if they pull it off.

Winning here against Millwall is therefore essential and seems possible given they’re unbeaten in the last four home H2Hs (W2, D2), prevailing in the last two by a 1-0 scoreline. Having lost just one of their last six Championship home games (W2, D3), the Latics are generally hard to beat at the DW Stadium but don’t expect a thriller as none of those games produced more than two goals!

Millwall remained in the play-off places despite losing 1-0 on Tuesday to Birmingham City in a game in which they claimed 66% of possession and attempted a whopping 21 shots. Manager Gary Rowett unsurprisingly admitted his team needed to be more “clinical”, also referencing his side’s struggles to score more than once, something they’ve done just once in their last six games (W1, D2, L3).

In fact, they haven't scored at all in each of their last two league away fixtures (D1, L1) so the Lions might be relieved that their final two league away days are against the Championship’s bottom two. That might inspire them to roar into some goalscoring form, particularly as they’ve only lost once on the road against sides currently in the bottom seven this term (W3, D1).

Players to watch: Max Power (G1, A1) had a hand in both of Wigan’s last two league goals and has interestingly drawn all three of his personal H2Hs against Millwall. Similarly influential, Tom Bradshaw has netted two of Millwall’s last four Championship goals, opening the scoring in eight of his ten goalscoring outings this term.

Hot streak: Millwall are yet to draw a league game as away favourites this term (W2, L2).
