Luton Hull prediction 2023-05-08

Luton vs Hull prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-05-07 14:00.
Luton Town guaranteed third place in the Championship and with it a favourable play-off draw by drawing 1-1 with Blackburn on Monday, securing their best league placing since 1991/92. “It’s not over yet, we’ve still got a job to do,” warned manager Rob Edwards, who is not expected to make many changes for this dead rubber as he wants his side to extend their current 13-match unbeaten run (W8, D5).

You can understand why he’d feel mad as the proverbial Hatter to change a winning team, particularly at home where they’ve won each of their last five Championship fixtures, the last two of which came after conceding first. They might need to show those fighting qualities again as Luton have a losing H2H record against Hull City at home this millennium (W2, L4).

All Hull realistically have to play for is maintaining 14th place and with it the associated prize money, which represents good progress after last season’s 19th-place finish. They’ve assumed the role of party pooper by ending both Swansea (D 1-1) and Watford’s (W 1-0) play-off hopes in their last two games, and will want to finish strongly having lost just one of their last eight league fixtures (W2, D5).

An away win would be the perfect way to sign off their campaign, but those fans making the trip south might not be overly optimistic as Hull haven’t produced one since January 2nd (D5, L4) and were beaten 1-0 here last term. The omens are therefore not good, especially as all five of their league away wins this season came against sides that will finish below them!

Players to watch: Centre-back Tom Lockyer scored in either the 49th or 50th minute in both of Luton’s last two fixtures, while Hull’s Ozan Tufan is one to watch later on after he netted four of his last six goals after the 80th minute.

Hot streak: Luton haven’t lost their final home game of the regular league season since 2009/10 (W10, D2).
