Augsburg Dortmund prediction 2023-05-21

Augsburg vs Dortmund prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-05-20 15:30.
The penultimate game of the penultimate Bundesliga round will witness a battle of epic proportions with potentially season-defining implications for both Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund. Starting with Augsburg, they can mathematically secure safety ahead of the final day with a win in this match, although the pressure could be off by kick-off if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Whether that’s the case or not, the Bavarians will hope to improve on their rotten run of one win across the last nine rounds (W1, D4, L4), although the sole victory in that sequence did come in their most recent home game against top-four hopefuls Union Berlin. In spite of the negatives, it seems likely that Augsburg will at least make Dortmund work after scoring against them in each of the previous 18 league H2Hs (W3, D5, L10).

No matter what happens with Bayern Munich in their game, the objective remains the same for Dortmund… win by any means necessary and take the title race to the final day! With Dortmund’s fate now out of their own hands due to some recent blips against two other teams fighting against relegation, fans may be a little pessimistic about ending Bayern’s ten-year stranglehold on the division, yet there is some precedence that might cheer Dortmund fans up!

In both 1994/95 and 2001/02, Dortmund won the league after heading into the penultimate round in second place. Edin Terzić is under no illusions that his men must extend their current unbeaten run (W4, D2) by first ending their rotten six-game winless away run (D3, L3) and hope the football gods grant them a reprieve in the form of Bayern dropping points in either of the remaining rounds.

Players to watch: Ermedin Demirović scored one of Augsburg’s three equalisers in their 4-3 reverse defeat, contributing to his woeful win-rate when on the scoresheet this season (W2, D2, L3). Gio Reyna’s late goal won the game that day and he’s now scored a league-high five goals from the bench after scoring in the last round, prompting Terzić to exclaim that he’s “not making it [team selection] easy for me!”

Hot stat: Dortmund have failed to win five of their eight away league games against sides beginning round 33 in tenth or worse (W3, D3, L2).
