Plymouth Huddersfield prediction 2023-08-05

Plymouth vs Huddersfield prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-08-04 14:00.
After a wait of 13 years, Home Park will experience Championship football again this Saturday with newly promoted Plymouth Argyle hosting Huddersfield Town. The Pilgrims won League One with 101 points last season, but they will be fully aware that the second-tier of English football will be a much stiffer test. That’s a sentiment backed up by Argyle manager Steven Schumacher, who insisted in the build up that Huddersfield will “make it difficult” for his side.

Ahead of their first Championship campaign since 2009/10, Plymouth have spent over £1 million on two occasions with the signings of Morgan Whittaker and Bali Mumba. They were both season-long loanees during 2022/23 but now share the tag of ‘most expensive signing’ in the club’s history. Plymouth fans will now be hoping their new arrivals can help secure a repeat of the last time they were promoted to the Championship when they enjoyed a six-year streak at this level.

In the opposing dugout will be a familiar face to some home supporters as Neil Warnock, who managed Plymouth from 1995 to 1997, leads Huddersfield at the ripe age of 74. Warnock, who was in charge of Huddersfield before jumping ship to Plymouth at the end of the 1994/95 season, was brought back to the Terriers in February last season with the team in 23rd place. He used the wealth of his experience from 1850+ games as a manager to keep Huddersfield up with one game to spare as they finished in 18th place, nine points above relegation.

After narrowly scathing off relegation last season, summer recruitment has understandably been tough for Huddersfield, who lost 13 Championship away games last term – the league’s joint-second most. But in spite of a long 626 mile round trip here, the Terriers fans making the unenviable long journey down should travel confident having ended last season losing only one of their last five away games (W3, D1, L1).

Players to watch: Bali Mumba was the only Plymouth outfield player to be selected in the League One Team of the Season after a campaign where the pacy wing-back contributed to 13 goals (G6, A7). Huddersfield’s Polish centre-back, MichaƂ Helik, has scored eight goals at Championship level and has never finished on the losing side when finding the back of the net.

Hot stat: Plymouth conceded no more than one goal in 19 of their 23 home league matches last season.
