Burnley vs Aston Villa prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-08-26 13:00.
Having had over two weeks to stew on a chastening 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in their Premier League (PL) opener, Burnley return to action after last weekend’s proposed trip to Luton was postponed due to ongoing work to revamp Kenilworth Road. Perhaps a break was just what Vincent Kompany’s side needed, as they were given a rude awakening by the Champions that not even their raft of new signings could help prevent.
Things won’t get much easier for Burnley here, as they welcome Aston Villa to Turf Moor – yet another stern early test served up by the fixture computer – with five of the Clarets’ first six PL games coming against sides finishing in the top eight of the PL last term. Burnley know they’re a far cry from competing at that end of the table, but they’ll be desperate to get some points on the board early here given it took them until their tenth match to win in their last PL campaign!
One side who aren’t in search of a maiden win this season is Aston Villa, after their 4-0 drubbing of Everton last weekend avenged their 5-1 hammering at Newcastle on opening day. It was more of the same in midweek too, as Villa eased to a 5-0 victory against Hibernian in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round, leaving them with one foot now firmly in the group stage.
All but rubber stamping European group stage football caps off a meteoric rise under Unai Emery, who boasts the highest win rate percentage (57%) of any permanent manager in Villa history. And you’d fully expect him to build on that win rate against Burnley given he has a 100% winning record in managerial meetings (W3), though his side did concede exactly once in each of those three clashes.
Players to watch: Having come through the ranks at Aston Villa, Aaron Ramsey made the permanent switch to Burnley this week and he tends to start the second half strongly, netting three of his last four goals in the 15 minutes following half-time. Fresh off the back of a midweek hat-trick, Ollie Watkins will be hopeful he can get back on the goal trail here given he’s scored on his last two visits to Turf Moor.
Hot stat: Burnley have conceded at least twice in seven of their last nine PL home games.
