Freiburg Dortmund prediction 2023-09-16

Freiburg vs Dortmund prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-09-15 13:30.
After winning their opening two Bundesliga matches this season, Freiburg were issued the harshest of reality checks prior to the international break when suffering a 5-0 mauling at the hands of Stuttgart. Whether they’ve had enough time to recuperate remains to be seen, but Freiburg have at least proven their powers of recovery before, having followed up eight of their last ten Bundelsliga losses with a victory (D1, L1).

Continuing that trend would see Christian Streich’s men record nine points from their opening four league matches, which would equal their best-ever tally at that stage of a Bundesliga season. Heading home to the Europa-Park Stadion, where they’ve suffered only two defeats in last 17 home top-flight fixtures (W11, D4), provides the perfect backdrop for the Breisgau Brazilians to achieve just that.

That run started just after a 3-1 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund last season, who then compounded Freiburg’s misery with a 5-1 win at the Signal Iduna Park to complete the H2H league double. Those results cap-off a long history of Dortmund dominating their hosts on the Bundesliga stage, losing just five of their 46 top-flight H2H encounters (W30, D11).

The Black and Yellows will be yearning for one of those wins now after consecutive draws, the latest of which saw them let a two-goal lead slip against newly promoted Heidenheim. Their sluggish start to the season doesn’t appear to be impacting the job security of manager Edin Terzić, who was backed unequivocally by CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke during the international break. There’s certainly no need for panic yet given Dortmund have lost just once in their last 22 Bundesliga outings (W15, D6) and currently hold the longest unbeaten streak in the league with 11 (W6, D5).

Players to watch: Since Frieburg are the only Bundesliga team yet to field a summer signing in their starting XI this season, perhaps it’s time to give loanee and former Dortmund man Maximilian Philipp a chance, as his last four goals have all come at home. He’ll come up against defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who transferred from Freiburg to Dortmund just last season, and has won all three of his previous encounters against his former club.

Hot stat: Freiburg have won only three of their last 16 league games as a pre-match outsider (D3, L10).
