Sevilla Las Palmas prediction 2023-09-17

Sevilla vs Las Palmas prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2023-09-16 16:30.
Sevilla have endured a dreadful start to their 2023/24 season as, in addition to losing the UEFA Super Cup on penalties to Manchester City, they lost their opening three matches of a new La Liga (LL) season for the first time in their history. If that wasn’t gloomy enough, the side propping up the rest of the top flight is soon expected to post a significant financial loss for the third year in a row.

Having won just one of their last six home league games (D1, L4), Sevilla have even struggled for points at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, but at least experienced manager José Luis Mendilibar retains the support of his players. “We're going through a bad moment … in two months we'll be able to talk again and we'll talk about hope,” midfielder Fernando said, with his words appropriately embodying the club’s “never surrender” motto.

A recent UEFA report revealed that the average tenure of a football manager working in Europe’s top 48 leagues as of last season was less than 16 months, but nobody is suggesting Las Palmas’ García Pimienta has outstayed his welcome after guiding them back to the top flight during his 19 months in charge. He may soon, however, be needing some better results in LL, after his club garnered just two points before the international break (D2, L2).

Getting three points here would be a shot in the arm for Las Palmas, who have won just one of their last 39 LL away games (D8, L30) and lost three straight H2Hs here. That said, both of their league road defeats this term saw them beaten 1-0 after a goalless first half, so they must feel close to improving that form, especially as both goals arrived after the 70th minute.

Key battle: Eyes will be on Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović, who has conceded an average of three goals per game since Yassine Bounou left for Saudi Arabia. He’ll be trying to keep Jonathan Viera, scorer of Las Palmas’ only goal this term, from adding to that tally.

Hot stat: Sevilla have won just 38% of home LL games they started as favourites since the beginning of last term (W6, D4, L6).
