Getafe Villarreal prediction 2023-09-30

Getafe vs Villarreal prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2023-09-29 12:00.
Getafe jumped above their next opponent Villarreal in the La Liga (LL) table by taking advantage of an Athletic Bilbao red card to collect their first away point of the LL season last time out. The physical and mental toll of a hard-fought midweek away trip that followed a 109-minute epic (L 4-3) in Sociedad last weekend must be building, and now they’ll likely be without the services of manager JosĂ© BordalĂĄs who was sent off for a stoppage time altercation with Athletic striker Iñaki Williams.

The Madrid-based club’s successful fight for survival last season was hampered by one of LL’s poorest home records (1.42 points per game), so picking up seven of a possible nine points from their home outings this term is already a welcome improvement. That included a third consecutive LL 0-0 draw at home to Barcelona, so they’ll be hoping to go even better than the scoreless stalemate they shared when hosting Villarreal in August 2022.

Villarreal are seeking to take points from a tenth consecutive meeting with Getafe (W7, D2). But head-to-head history won’t provide much comfort at this point following a home loss to new league leaders Girona (2-1) that confirmed their worst seven-game start to a LL season since 2009/10. The decision to sack Quique SetiĂ©n so early in the campaign is yet to be vindicated after an underwhelming start to Pacheta’s tenure (W1, D1, L1).

An unsuccessful trip to Panathinaikos (L 2-0) was the first of three consecutive competitive games without a victory under Pacheta in a seven-day period, with suggestions by some fans on social media the team are sorely missing lead striker Gerard Moreno and central defender Jorge Cuenca. The latter is particularly an issue given Villarreal are now five LL starts without a clean sheet, though with the last eight LL games involving either Villarreal or Getafe seeing both teams score on the day, defending doesn’t appear a priority for either club!

Players to watch: Getafe’s Juanmi Latasa is forging a reputation as a ‘super sub’ by scoring off the bench in his last two LL appearances, while 36-year-old Villarreal veteran JosĂ© Luis Morales, who started in place of the injured Moreno during the week, netted the match-winning goal the last time these teams met.

Hot stat: The pre-match favourite won just two of Villarreal’s last nine LL games (D2, L5).
