Lorient Montpellier prediction 2023-10-01

Lorient vs Montpellier prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-09-30 15:05.
Having started the season unbeaten in their first three Ligue 1 matches (W1, D2), Lorient’s campaign has since taken a sharp, yet entertaining, turn for the worse after picking up only a single point in their last three outings (D1, L2). A remarkable 15 goals were scored in those three winless matches, capped off by a 5-3 defeat to Nantes last time out, that being the first time since December 2010 that Lorient lost a top-flight game despite scoring three goals.

Manager Régis Le Bris’ headaches therefore seem to stem from the defensive end, as his side have kept only one clean sheet in their last 14 matches. The Stade du Moustoir faithful won’t be complaining as long as the Merlucciidaes continue their output at home, where they’ve lost only three home league games all year (W6, D5).

Level on six points with Lorient are their visitors Montpellier, who after their 0-0 draw with Rennes last round have endured an equally poor start. That was their first goalless game in 50 Ligue 1 matches, which cemented their joint-worst start after six matches to a top-flight campaign since they opened the 2015/16 season with just one point from six games.

Perhaps then their visit to Lorient couldn’t have been timed any better, with Montpellier currently unbeaten in 13 Ligue 1 H2Hs (W7, D6). Manager Michel Der Zakarian has also made a point of getting the better of his hosts, having only lost three of his 14 managerial H2Hs against Lorient (W7, D4).

Players to watch: Lorient’s Romain Faivre found the net the last time these two teams met, and will be confident of scoring again since five of his six goals since have come at home. His midfield counterpart, Montpellier captain Téji Savanier, will be equally confident he can open his account for the season here, having scored in his last three encounters against Lorient.

Hot stat: Five of Lorient’s six matches this season have been level at half-time, a league-high.
