Klaksvik vs Lille prediction: EUROPE: Europa Conference League – Group Stage betting tips on match 2023-10-04 16:45.
After becoming the first Faroese club to reach the group phase of a European competition earlier this year, Kí Klaksvik lost their UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) opener 2-1 to Slovan Bratislava. That was their only defeat across their last six matches (W4, D1), an indication of the step up they have to make from the Faroese top flight, which they’ve won 20 times.
As Klaksvik’s usual home stadium seats just 530 people, they’ll play UECL fixtures at Tórsvøllur, which they’ll hope can help them extend an unbeaten seven-match run in home European encounters (W4, D3). Even still, simply welcoming Slovan, Lille and Olimpija Ljubljana to the Faroe Islands as a whole will be “special for the club and for the whole country” according to head coach Magne Hoseth.
French outfit Lille top the group after beating Olimpija 2-0 on matchday one, and come into this fixture after repeating that scoreline against Le Havre on Sunday, leading 1-0 at the break in both contests. This is unknown territory for the Mastiffs, as they’ve never played a team from the Faroe Islands before and in fact no sides from France and the Faroes have ever met previously!
But even when playing in reasonably familiar surroundings, Lille have struggled away from home recently, as that win over Le Havre was their first in a competitive game on the road since March (D6, L3), needing extra time in Croatia to clinch a 1-1 away draw against Rijeka to even make it to the UECL group stage!
Players to watch: Árni Frederiksberg has scored three goals across Klaksvik’s last two home outings, with all of those strikes coming between the 20th minute and half-time. Yusuf Yazıcı completed the scoring as Lille beat Olimpija, netting in injury time, but his previous strike against Montpellier arrived in the second minute!
Hot streak: There were goals in both halves of each of Lille’s last four games (W2, D1, L1) and each of Klaksvik’s last three (W3).
