Fulham Sheffield Utd prediction 2023-10-07

Fulham vs Sheffield Utd prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-10-06 14:00.
After a deflating 2-0 derby defeat to Chelsea, Fulham have the chance to quickly make amends at Craven Cottage against Sheffield United. Marco Silva lamented that his side were “not aggressive enough” in the first half against the Blues as their run of not scoring an open-play goal in a home Premier League (PL) match before the break was extended to four games.

The south-west Londoners will hope to put that right here and are boosted by a strong record against newly promoted outfits in their respective leagues since the start of 2021/22 (W8, D3, L2), while Silva can also point to the fact that Fulham haven’t conceded in the second period of their last three PL encounters. Goalscoring has been their Achilles heel without the services of Aleksandar Mitrović this season, with no team scoring fewer goals in England’s top flight this season than Fulham.

Sheffield United may be bottom after seven matches on their PL return (D1, L6), but under-pressure boss Paul Heckingbottom felt that they’ve “not lost because of other teams being far better than us, we've lost because of little key moments.” Despite Heckingbottom seeing some light at the end of the tunnel he couldn’t blame a few ‘key moments’ going against them in the recent 8-0 mauling they suffered at the hands of Newcastle United, with those goals meaning they’ve conceded 12 since they last scored!

That’s poor form, but on the plus side leading into this game, the South Yorkshire club did do the double over eventual Championship winners Fulham two seasons ago – keeping clean sheets in both encounters – to arrest a five-game losing streak that Heckingbottom had against Saturday’s opponents while in the dugout. Indeed, Silva is one of just seven bosses that the ex-Leeds United head coach has faced at least twice and has a 100% record against.

Players to watch: Alex Iwobi will be pushing for a start after impressing in his three PL substitute appearances for Fulham so far, scoring the clincher in the 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup fourth round last month. Watch out for Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer in the second half, as 13 of his 14 previous goals have occurred after the break.

Hot stat: Sheff Utd have failed to win any of their last six league games against London opposition (D1, L5).
