Sheffield Wed Huddersfield prediction 2023-10-07

Sheffield Wed vs Huddersfield prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-10-06 14:00.
Two of the six losers from a busy Tuesday evening program have three days to lick their wounds and pick up the pieces ahead of what could one day prove to be a decisive fixture in the battle for survival. Sheffield Wednesday retained their status as one of two EFL clubs without a league win this season (D2, L8) having fallen to 1-0 midweek defeat against West Brom.

It was the third consecutive Championship match where they found themselves trailing by the half-hour mark and without finding a response by the full-time whistle. The deterioration of what is now their worst start to a season in club history cost manager Xisco Muñoz his job as he was shown the door just hours after apologising to fans on Sheffield radio and admitting in a post-match press conference he had run out of ideas. Under-21s boss Neil Thompson will step in for his first caretaker spell since replacing Tony Pulis prior to Darren Moore’s signing in 2020/21.

Speaking of Moore, Huddersfield have already moved on from their own upheaval in the dugout, last month becoming the first Championship club of the season to dismiss their manager. Moore’s first loss in charge of his new club – away to Birmingham City (4-1) – followed a pair of 1-1 draws that led to their second four-game winless period of the league campaign.

It hasn’t taken long for Moore to come up against his previous employer, and it would be interesting to know after the first ten rounds he stands by the claim he made in August that he could have taken Wednesday back to the Premier League! Regardless, he should bring some important intel into this match after 129 games in charge of the club, ending with their successful promotion from League One last season.

Key battle: Moore will know the threat posed by Wednesday forward Michael Smith, who scored in nine separate competitive victories last season. Michał Helik will be part of the armoury in place to stop Smith, but Helik could be a goalscoring danger himself having been on the scoresheet in three of Huddersfield’s five Championship away trips this season.

Hot stat: Huddersfield’s last seven Championship away games saw both teams score on the day.
