Faroe Islands vs Poland prediction: EUROPE: Euro – Qualification betting tips on match 2023-10-11 18:45.
Rock-bottom in Euro 2024 Qualification Group E with only a single point after five matches, it seems another opportunity to qualify for a major tournament has come and gone for the Faroe Islands. Their lone point came in their opening game of the qualification campaign in a 1-1 draw with Moldova, a result which sparked hope for the Faroese team, but it’s fair to say that spark was quickly extinguished, as that was only one of two goals they’ve scored so far.
Manager Håkan Ericson will at least be proud of his side’s defensive improvements as conceding less than two goals per game in their last seven matches (D2, L5) can be considered impressive by their standards. If they can somehow leverage that improved defence to pull off an upset, then the Tórsvøllur faithful might finally have something to shout about, and they could take some added belief from the fact all of Faroe Islands last six wins have come at home.
None of those sides they beat were the calibre of upcoming opponents Poland, however, who are Group E’s top seed according to FIFA as they’re ranked 30th in the world. But they hardly look deserving of that ranking since they’ve turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the Euro 2024 qualifying, having slipped to three defeats in their opening five games (W2).
Their most recent match, a 2-0 loss to FIFA 62nd-ranked Albania, was the last straw for Fernando Santos’ short reign as manager of the Eagles, as he was cast out of the nest and replaced by Michał Probierz. The new man in charge could do with a repeat of Poland’s 2-0 win over their hosts last month, which would revive their hopes of making a fifth consecutive major tournament appearance.
Players to watch: The Faroe Islands will be hoping good luck charm JĂłan SĂmun Edmundsson is on song, having won six of their last seven games when he’s found the net. As for Poland, new manager MichaĹ‚ Probierz has sung the praises of the inform Sebastian SzymaĹ„ski, who’s scored an impressive eight goals for his club Fenerbahçe this season, with six of them coming after half-time.
Hot stat: There have been less than 1.5 goals scored by half-time in eight of Faroe Islands' last 11 home games.
