Peru Argentina prediction 2023-10-18

Peru vs Argentina prediction: SOUTH AMERICA: World Championship – Qualification betting tips on match 2023-10-17 02:00.
Things have gone from bad to worse so far in this CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) cycle for Peru, who are yet to even score a goal (D1, L2). That terrible trio of games culminated with a 2-0 defeat against Chile last weekend, though they’ll hope to end the barren streak here, especially as Peru have never gone four straight WCQ games without scoring in their history.

That’s certainly not a given as manager Juan Reynoso has overseen just one victory across his last seven matches (D2, L4) although this could be an opportunity to bounce back if Peru’s WCQ home form across their last seven such games is anything to go by (W4, D2, L1). That sole defeat came against the brilliant Brazil, and now they face another mammoth task against the reigning world champions, Argentina.

Visiting manager Lionel Scaloni was boosted by the return of Lionel Messi from the bench last weekend as his side continued their march towards qualification with a third straight WCQ win without reply. Keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet isn’t out of the question either, as one must only look back to 2021 to find a run of six straight shutouts in this sphere!

Truth be told, Argentina should have more than enough to continue a stunning run of form which has seen them win 13 consecutive games, a run which includes their historic World Cup final win over France. Not only this, Argentina boast a tremendous record in away WCQ action, with no defeats on the road at this level since March 2017 (W7, D4 since).

Players to watch: No Peruvian player has scored a competitive international goal since Yoshimar Yotun in March 2022, yet the 33-year-old has contributed to goals (G1, A1) in his last two club games. Trying to outdo him will be Argentina’s Enzo Fernández, who scored his nation’s opening goal in their second game in the last international break, but has more recently been booked in back-to-back appearances for club & country.

Hot stat: Peru have drawn three of the last four WCQ home H2Hs, twice coming from behind to do so (D3, L1).
