Hull Southampton prediction 2023-10-21

Hull vs Southampton prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-10-20 14:00.
Unbeaten at home in the league since April (W3, D6), Hull City now need to start turning draws into wins to build on a solid start to the season (W4, D5, L2). The chances of doing so at home appear plentiful having lost only once in 17 Championship matches in front of their home crowd (W6, D10), but adding to that hefty draw column on Saturday will mean Liam Rosenior’s side have shared the points in five successive games at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers have taken only one point from two fixtures in October so far and went into the international break off the back of a 2-2 draw at Millwall, a result Rosenior found “frustrating” after they had squandered a 2-1 lead. He ought not to be too despondent though, as Hull go into this weekend only one point adrift of the play-offs.

Sitting one place beneath their hosts by virtue of goal difference alone are Southampton, who got off to an excellent start to life back in the Championship (W3, D1), before losing four in a row. But Russell Martin’s men appeared to have regained some of their mojo, stringing together a three match unbeaten run (W2, D1) which included a 1-0 win over Stoke in which the Saints secured their first clean sheet of the season.

Shut outs are a rarity for the Saints though, as ahead of this round of games they have leaked the joint second-highest number of goals (21) in England’s second tier this term. With just two goals conceded in their last three games, they appear far sturdier now, and make the trip to East Yorkshire knowing victory could see them move back into the play-off places for the first time since early September, with Martin looking to make it three matches without defeat against Rosenior while in the dugout (W1, D1).

Players to watch: Aaron Connolly has found the net five times already for Hull in the Championship this season, four of which came after the 80th minute. On the other hand, Stuart Armstrong is an early bird, scoring in the first half of both of Southampton’s last two encounters!

Hot stat: Hull have scored more than one goal in only one of their last ten home league games.
