West Ham Everton prediction 2023-10-29

West Ham vs Everton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-10-28 13:00.
After making a great start to the new season with no defeat across their opening four Premier League (PL) matches, West Ham United are in danger of undoing that good initial work. Thursday’s 2-1 UEFA Europa League defeat away against Olympiakos made it no win in three matches for the Hammers (D1, L2), who could be fighting off fatigue for this one. Their Thursday night action came four days after Sunday’s heavy 4-1 defeat away to Aston Villa, while Everton’s last fixture was the past weekend’s Saturday early kick-off (12:30pm BST).

No PL side had made fewer changes to their starting XI than West Ham (six) coming into the round, but manager David Moyes did make seven on Thursday night clearly with this game in mind. That might go some way to reducing some of the physical toll on the legs of the home players, while wins in four of the last six PL meetings with Everton (L2) – which is as many as they had from the previous 24 H2H matches – should hand them a psychological boost.

In indifferent form across their last five competitive outings (W3, L2), Everton are licking their wounds following last weekend’s contentious 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat. They played the contest with just ten men from the 37th minute, with manager Sean Dyche branding the decision not to show Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté a second yellow card when the game was level for a foul on the halfway line as “incredible”. The Toffees need to try and put that perceived injustice to one side as they aim to avoid three straight away defeats against West Ham for the first time since 1974.

While Everton have struggled in more recent times in trips to East London, the Hammers have been a side they’ve usually enjoyed success against historically. The Merseysiders have won more away PL games against West Ham than they have against any other opponent (12). Dyche’s men also secured victory in their last away game in London (3-1 vs Brentford in September), ending a winless run of 13 away matches in the capital.

Players to watch: Jarrod Bowen was one of those rested from the start on Thursday; he’s West Ham’s top league scorer (G6) and netted twice in this meeting back in January. Needing one more goal to register 50 PL career strikes, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored a joint-career-high five competitive goals against West Ham.

Hot stat: West Ham’s only three defeats from their last 14 PL home games came against teams who finished last season in the top-five (W7, D4).
