It’s already proving to be a rollercoaster campaign for Wolfsburg, who progressed to the third round of the DFB-Pokal in midweek at the expense of RB Leipzig, yet remain on a three-match losing streak in the Bundesliga. That winless stint has seen the hosts drop to ninth ahead of this round, already nine points adrift of the UEFA Champions League spots which was the dream aim this season.
That dream could still become a reality with plenty of the campaign remaining, and the visit of Werder Bremen offers plenty of good omens. Avoiding a relegation battle this season will be the objective for the away side, and a repeat of either of their unbeaten H2H results last campaign (W1, D1) would boost their confidence further here. Considering that they’ve lost 14 of their last 17 league matches played on a Sunday though (W1, D2), that could prove a tall order.
Players to watch: Jonas Wind has been on fire for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this season, netting eight goals, three of which served as match openers. As for Werder Bremen, they could be reliant on Marvin Ducksch who has three league strikes this campaign but has never scored in seven H2Hs – his most against an opponent without scoring.
