Cagliari Genoa prediction 2023-11-05

Cagliari vs Genoa prediction: ITALY: Serie A betting tips on match 2023-11-04 14:00.
Cagliari mounted a spectacular comeback to win 4-3 against Frosinone last weekend, becoming the first team in Serie A (SA) history to win having trailed by three goals at the 70th minute. A 2-1 midweek Coppa Italia victory against Udinese followed, securing Cagliari consecutive competitive wins for the first time this season, although that positive is offset by the fact they start this round in the relegation zone amid fears of an instant return to Serie B.

Claudio Ranieri’s men could now post back-to-back SA wins for the first time since January 2022, but they will have to break a five-game top-flight losing streak against Genoa to achieve that. They’ve by no means been disgraced in defeat, as four of those losses have been via a 1-0 scoreline, and going by recent form, the Sardinians would probably be content to concede just once as their last three home games saw them concede a whopping ten goals!

Fellow promoted side Genoa are four points above the bottom-three ahead of this round and are also coming off the back of consecutive competitive wins. The 1-0 league win over Salernitana last weekend certainly helped in their quest to beat the drop, as Alberto Gilardino’s men found the net after two straight league defeats without scoring. That result now leaves them in with a shout of winning consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since a run of three in February 2021, one of which was against Cagliari!

Lacklustre performances away from home threaten to be their undoing as they search for those back-to-back SA wins, as Genoa have collected just a solitary point across their last four SA road trips (D1, L3). All three defeats saw them fail to score, but with an impressive record of having scored in 18 of their last 19 SA H2Hs, the Red and Blues will have high hopes of avoiding another scoring blank on this trip.

Players to watch: Leonardo Pavoletti scored a brace in second-half stoppage time last week to lift Cagliari to their first league win of the season and he can boast two goals across his last five SA H2Hs. Albert Guðmundsson could be a contender to have the final say here, as his last two goals have been match winners for Genoa.

Hot stat: Genoa are the only SA team yet to score a second-half goal away from home this season.
