With second place in UEFA Conference League (UECL) Group C and a spot in the knockout round play-offs still very much up for grabs, third-placed Ballkani entertain top of the table Viktoria Plzeň in Tirana on Thursday evening. Level on four points with second-placed Astana with two fixtures left to play, the hosts have already matched their points tally from last season’s UECL group stage but will want to amass even more in order to qualify.

Domestically, Ilir Daja’s side are unbeaten in the Kosovo Superleague and remain on course for their third successive title thanks to their current seven-point lead at the summit. The Gabriels are also top scorers in the division in spite of having played two games less than their nearest challengers, but it’s proven to be a very different story in UECL Group C, as the hosts enter here as the lowest scorers in Group C, netting just three goals which could hamper their chances of success in this clash (W1, D1, L2).

Up against Ballkani’s timid European attack here is the meanest defence in Group C as Plzeň have conceded just once across their four wins. Points have seemingly been more important than providing entertainment for Miroslav Koubek’s team during the group stage, as they’ve only scored more than once in a match on one occasion, racking up three 1-0 victories and a 2-1 win to date.

Their cautious approach has certainly worked, but with their top spot in Group C and progression to the knockout stage already secured, perhaps the handbrake will come off here for the visitors. Players to watch: Almir Kryeziu has contributed to two of Ballkani’s three goals in Group C, with a first-half strike at home to Dinamo Zagreb being followed by an assist against Astana in their last home game. Meanwhile, Tomáš Chorý has opened the scoring for Plzeň in each of his last three UECL appearances.
