Monza Genoa prediction 2023-12-10

Monza vs Genoa prediction: ITALY: Serie A betting tips on match 2023-12-09 14:00.
Valentín Carboni became Monza’s youngest scorer in Serie A (SA) history aged just 18 years and 271 days, but his 92nd-minute equaliser couldn’t prevent a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Juventus last Friday. It was only their second loss across 11 league games (W3, D6) though, leaving them just outside the top ten. And while only six sides in the league have netted fewer goals than their 15, Raffaele Palladino’s men possess the fourth-best defence (14) ahead of this round of fixtures.

The defeat to Juventus was their first in SA this season at Stadio Brianteo (W2, D4), but they have only once lost consecutive home matches in the top flight – their opening three games on their own patch in this division last term. That stat should provide extra motivation for Monza as they line up for their first SA meeting with Genoa, a side they last faced in the 2005/06 Serie C play-offs.

Genoa advanced to Serie B in that season and will hope to revive those memories here, as this current campaign sees them start this match three points behind the hosts. They drew 1-1 against Empoli last weekend for their first league draw in seven games (W2, L4), which was followed by a 1-0 Coppa Italia defeat at Lazio.

The Ligurians are struggling badly away from their Stadio Luigi Ferraris home, with that midweek cup exit their seventh match on the road without victory (D1) since they beat Lazio in SA in August. And agonisingly for Genoa, five of the six league encounters in that run have seen them concede last after the 80th minute, including four goals let in during second-half stoppage time!

Players to watch: If Andrea Colpani finds the net, don’t be surprised if the contest finishes with a total of two goals, as four of his five scoring appearances this SA season have ended that way. Looking to break that trend could be Genoa’s Mateo Retegui, who has seen his last two league strikes come in outings producing 4+ goals.

Hot stat: Genoa are one of the only two SA sides who have failed to win a point after falling behind this term.
