Plymouth Rotherham prediction 2023-12-16

Plymouth vs Rotherham prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-12-15 15:00.
The only two teams without an away win in the 2023/24 Championship, Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham United, go head-to-head on Saturday at Home Park, with the Pilgrims looking for their seventh home victory of the season (W6, D1, L3) and their third in a row. Steven Schumacher’s side come into this game after picking up a point at a resurgent Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday, a result all the more impressive as they played the final 65 minutes of normal time with ten men.

Schumacher, who has been linked with the vacancy at Sunderland, was delighted with the 0-0 draw in west London, saying he was “really proud of the lads’ effort”, but he will be hoping his charges can rediscover their scoring touch after blanks in their last two matches. It would be a brave man to bet against that happening too, as only Ipswich have scored more than Plymouth’s 24 home league goals this season.

With only four league goals scored and two points accumulated on Rotherham’s travels this campaign, this long journey to Devon will give new head coach Leam Richardson his first opportunity to turn around their away form, although he was unable to make an instant impact on Wednesday when the strugglers were defeated 2-0 in South Yorkshire by West Bromwich Albion.

After the midweek loss, the former Wigan manager said he and the team needed “to get to work on the training ground”, and he will be hoping to build on the job done by caretaker boss Wayne Carlisle, who delivered Rotherham’s first clean sheet of the season on the road in their last such encounter against Birmingham City. The Millers did return from Plymouth with a 1-0 League One win in February last year and boast an impressive H2H record, having beaten them six times (D1, L1) from 2011 onwards.

Players to watch: Plymouth forward Morgan Whittaker has contributed to 11 goals so far this term with ten of them (G7, A3) coming at Home Park. Sam Nombe was the last person to score for Rotherham and is their only player to have found the net in December.

Hot stat: Plymouth have scored before the break in ten of their 12 matches at Home Park in 2023/24, including the last five on the trot.
