Sheffield Wed QPR prediction 2023-12-16

Sheffield Wed vs QPR prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-12-15 15:00.
After a three-match revival (W2, D1), things were starting to look up for Sheffield Wednesday, but they were given a harsh reality check in midweek when they were beaten 3-1 by Norwich. Things certainly still look a lot brighter than they did a matter of weeks ago for the 23rd-placed Owls, who now face a QPR side immediately above them in the table and needing a victory to ensure the eight-point gap to safety doesn’t grow this weekend.

The omens don’t look particularly positive in that sense, as Wednesday have won just one of their last eight league H2Hs against QPR (D2, L5). The pattern of their home league results of late would hint at a continuation of that misery, as their last six Championship outings have followed a loss-draw-win pattern, and with their last such outing yielding a 3-1 win against Blackburn, recent history would suggest this may be a disappointing afternoon for the home support.

Although QPR sit just a place above their hosts in the table, the picture is a lot brighter for them given they sit just a point away from safety. It’s a huge day at the foot of the Championship table, as six of the bottom seven sides face off against each other, and that’s something the Rs will hope to profit from given a win will take them outside of the bottom three regardless of results elsewhere.

In truth, QPR will be kicking themselves they don’t come into this game with their heads above water already after they drew 0-0 at home to relegation rivals Plymouth in midweek, a result made even more frustrating by the fact their opponents played with ten men from the 25th minute. That denied Rangers a fourth successive league win, and after new boss Martí Cifuentes claimed his side were “terrible” in that game, he’ll be expecting a reaction in South Yorkshire.

Players to watch: Sheffield Wednesday’s teenage sensation Bailey Cadamarteri has scored two goals in Wednesday’s last three Championship outings and was recently rewarded with a new contract. QPR’s Paul Smyth netted his first goal for the club in their last away outing, but the winger has more yellow cards (five) than goal involvements this league season.

Hot streak: Sheffield Wednesday have scored exactly once in the last six home H2Hs.
