Coventry vs Sheffield Wed prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-12-25 15:00.
An impressive 3-0 win at Sunderland on Saturday maintained Coventry City’s recent form which has seen them lose just once in their last eight matches (W4, D3), leaving them 15th in the table at the halfway stage of the season. From being 20th and only five points above the drop in early November, the Sky Blues now find themselves ten points clear of relegation and only six adrift of the play-offs ahead of this Boxing Day round.

This turnaround is already starting to draw parallels with last season when the Sky Blues were bottom after ten games before eventually finishing fifth and only missing out on promotion on penalties in the play-off final! But if something similar is to occur in this campaign, then Mark Robins’ side will need to turn draws into wins, particularly at home (W4, D6, L1), where they have shared the points more often than any other side in the division.

For Sheffield Wednesday, it is their away form which must pick up if they are to escape the drop. The Owls have lost all but two of their games on the road this season (W1, D1, L9), with only bottom of the table Rotherham United holding a worse record. However, it was defeat at home on Saturday, in spite of being 1-0 up until the 74th minute against an out of form Cardiff City, which leaves Danny Röhl’s side six points from safety coming into the round.

Prior to Saturday, the German had overseen a revival of just one defeat in five (W3, D1) which allowed the Wednesday faithful to believe that relegation could be avoided. But with no win away at Coventry since 1995, it’s hard to see Wednesday’s survival bid being strengthened here, even in spite of their recent uptick in results.

Players to watch: Coventry midfielder Callum O’Hare is in excellent form with three goals and one assist from his last three starts. Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba has also been heavily involved recently, with three goals across his last four games and a yellow card each time he’s netted!

Hot stat: Coventry have scored just one first-half goal across their last seven home games.
