Blackburn Huddersfield prediction 2024-01-20

Blackburn vs Huddersfield prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-01-19 15:00.
Blackburn Rovers were thrashed 4-1 by West Bromwich Albion last weekend, stretching their winless league run to six games (D1, L5). Such has been their downfall since the start of December, no Championship side has won fewer points (four), lost more matches (seven), and conceded more goals (24) than Rovers, making their ten-point buffer to the relegation zone look increasingly fragile.

As Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side return back home for this clash, hopes of an immediate rebound rest on improving upon their recent six-game form at Ewood Park (W3, D1, L2) which although isn’t devastating, certainly isn’t eye-catching either. The presence of Huddersfield Town in the opponent’s dugout could at least provide a significant confidence boost, as Blackburn have lost just one of their last 14 home H2Hs (W7, D6).

Huddersfield sit just four points above the relegation spots themselves after a 1-1 draw against Plymouth last weekend left them with just one victory across their past nine league fixtures (D4, L4). That sole victory incidentally came in a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture which remains their biggest win of the season so far, whilst that three-point haul also proved to be a third success in a row for manager Darren Moore over Blackburn with three different sides – all of which were accompanied by a clean sheet.

The Terriers arrive at Ewood Park with the chance of completing a league H2H double for the first time ever at the 44th attempt, which should be incentive enough to step up their game on the road. An increase in performance will be needed to make that history, as Huddersfield have been underwhelming on their travels, with just one win across their last ten league road trips (D4, L5).

Players to watch: Dominic Hyam didn’t cover himself in glory with an own goal in the 4-1 loss to West Brom, but the Blackburn defender’s last home H2H was a 1-0 win last season. His battle will be against Sorba Thomas, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ewood Park and has four contributions (G1, A3) across four prior H2Hs, including two in the reverse fixture this campaign (G1, A1).

Hot stat: Blackburn have conceded 13 of their last 52 Championship goals beyond the 80th minute.
