Angola vs Burkina Faso prediction: AFRICA: Africa Cup of Nations betting tips on match 2024-01-22 20:00.
With two points separating the top three teams in Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the final group stage matchday promises to be an intriguing prospect, especially with the top-two Angola and Burkina Faso meeting. Both sides are already guaranteed at least a top-three spot, though with only four knockout berths on offer for the six third-placed finishers in the competition, both sides will still be gunning for victory here. That will be particularly true for two-time quarter-finalists Angola, as they haven’t cleared the group hurdle in their last three AFCON appearances.

Their 3-2 victory over Mauritania last time out means that they’re now unbeaten across eight matches (W2, D6) as they now hunt consecutive victories for the first time since November 2022. There’s also history to be made for the Black Sable Antelopes here, as they’ve never won more than a single match during an AFCON edition, whilst they’ve also never topped their group, something they’ll be assured of here with victory.

Burkina Faso have a richer history than their counterparts in this tournament having made it to at least the semi finals in three of their last four AFCON appearances. A dramatic late stoppage time goal saw them drop points in a 2-2 draw against Algeria on matchday two, a result which robbed them of the chance to post consecutive AFCON finals victories inside 90 minutes for the first time since 2017.

Despite that result, qualification remains in their own hands and as they’ve now lost just once across eight internationals (W4, D3), progression from Group D still seems likely. And with only two of those eight outings seeing the Stallions concede more than one goal, another strong defensive performance seems their most likely route to success.

Players to watch: Gelson Dala scored a brace on matchday two, making it his fourth win across his last five goal scoring caps (D1) for Angola. Equally influential for Burkina Faso has been Mohamed Konaté, whose match opener against Algeria was the only time he’s scored an international goal and not ended up on the winning side (W3).

Hot stat: In five of their last six AFCON finals matches, Burkina Faso have seen at least one goal scored beyond the 80th minute.
