Lyon Rennes prediction 2024-01-26

Lyon vs Rennes prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2024-01-25 20:00.
After winning their last three Ligue 1 games of 2023, a revived Lyon failed to continue their ascension in 3-1 defeat to Le Havre in their opening league game of 2024. Sandwiching that defeat are two victories in the Coupe de France that should serve to keep some momentum going, albeit both came against lower league opposition.

Pierre Sage’s men will now turn their attention back to their efforts of escaping the dreaded relegation zone, something they’re on the cusp of doing seeing as they occupy 16th spot and are level on points with 15th-placed Metz. Lyon had only registered one win before their recent hat trick of Ligue 1 victories, which was a 1-0 triumph over upcoming opponents Rennes on matchday 12, affording them a shot at securing a first league-double over their visitors since the 2014/15 season.

Rennes will be confident of stifling those plans given their current form, as they boast four wins on the trot after their Coupe de France victory over Marseille most recently. Back-to-back victories in the league has propelled them up to tenth on the table, and should Julien Stéphan’s troops continue to rake in the points, they could fast track themselves back into European contention.

One aspect that could derail those aspirations is their away form, which has accounted for a measly seven of their 22 points this Ligue 1 campaign, mostly due to them scoring a league-low five goals on their travels all season. Despite that low output on the road, the Red and Blacks have seen the joint-most league games feature both teams scoring this season with 11, and this matchup could very well add to that tally since four of the last five H2Hs have followed suit.

Key battle: Both teams will be looking to their respective front men to fire them to a win, as both Rennes’ Martin Terrier and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette have scored three goals in their last three appearances against each other’s clubs.

Hot stat: There have been goals in both halves in 12 of Rennes’ last 15 matches.
