Marseille vs Monaco prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2024-01-26 20:00.
Seventh placed Marseille will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to eight games (W4, D3) when fourth placed Monaco travel west along the south coast to the Stade Vélodrome on Saturday evening. With only five points separating the two sides, a win for the hosts would give them a boost in their quest to finish in the top five for an eighth successive season.
Ahead of this round of fixtures, Marseille were one of only two Ligue 1 sides to still have an unbeaten home record this season (W6, D3) and they will fancy their chances of extending that to ten. Such strong results in front of their home fans have been the result of a mean defence, which has conceded only three times across those nine games and has leaked more than one goal at home in only one league game since late March last year (W9, D4).
But that defence could face a stern examination when it comes up against a Monaco attack who scored twice in each of their last three away league games and are behind only top-of-the-table PSG in terms of league goals netted on their travels this season. The Red and Whites have won their last two away matches 2-1 and are targeting their first hat-trick of victories on the road since October 2022.
Trips to Marseille have been enjoyable for Monaco over the last several seasons with only one defeat from their last eight (W3, D4). So, Adi Hütter could well see this venue as the perfect spot to get his team firing again as they were top-of-the-table in late October, but now find themselves ten points adrift of the summit after losing three of their last six (W3).
Key battle: Captain and centre-back Samuel Gigot recorded his second goal of the season in Marseille’s last home match and also found the net in the away game against Monaco earlier in this campaign. He’ll be up against Monaco skipper Wissam Ben Yedder, who comes into this game in a rich vein of form with seven goals from his last four.
Hot stat: Monaco conceded in the 85th minute or later in three of their last four league fixtures.
