Clermont Strasbourg prediction 2024-01-28

Clermont vs Strasbourg prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2024-01-27 14:00.
A priceless 2-1 win at Nantes in Ligue 1 in the last round moved Clermont to within two points of safety and also ended a run of six league matches without victory (D2, L4). Pascal Gastien’s side did suffer defeat in their most recent competitive encounter though, losing 3-1 in the Coupe de France to Strasbourg, who are coincidentally their top-flight opponents this weekend.

Les Lanciers are the lowest-scoring Ligue 1 team at home this season (G4), while a six-game winless H2H sequence also makes for grim reading ahead of this all-important outing (D3, L3). That said, Clermont were a tough nut to crack on their own patch before the winter break, having conceded just three times in that period in the league this term.

Strasbourg will no doubt be buoyed heading to Stade Gabriel-Montpied, both due to their recent cup success there and as Patrick Vieira’s side remain on a seven-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. Despite being five points off the European places, their top-five quest might not be over just yet given their current form, although they’ll be looking to get a few more clean sheets on the board, having not recorded a Ligue 1 shutout since the 0-0 result in the reverse league fixture against Clermont in early November.

On a more positive note, only Monaco have picked up more points in Ligue 1 from losing positions in 2023/24 (14) than the Alsace outfit’s total of seven so if they go behind here, it doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t fight back. Despite having only scored just 19 times in the division this campaign too, Strasbourg have netted nine of those from the 76th minute onwards, earning them winners against Metz, Le Havre and Lille.

Players to watch: Shamar Nicholson is getting into the groove in Ligue 1 with three goal involvements in his last two such outings (G2, A1), including opening the scoring and getting the assist for the winner at Nantes. After recording a goal and an assist himself against Clermont in the Coupe de France, Dilane Bakwa will be high on confidence, especially as his last four strikes have all come away from home.

Hot stat: Strasbourg’s last seven league games have seen both sides score on the day.
