Union Berlin Darmstadt prediction 2024-01-28

Union Berlin vs Darmstadt prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-01-27 14:30.
Union Berlin returned from the winter break with a creditable 0-0 draw against Freiburg, hinting that the green shoots of their Bundesliga survival bid may still be growing in the infancy of Nenad Bjelica’s reign (W2, D1, L2). Following that up with an unsurprising 1-0 defeat in a rescheduled clash away to Bayern Munich in midweek, the Iron Ones have had to work with a quicker turnaround time than their opponents for this weekend’s clash.

Returning to Berlin should be seen as a positive for Union, who have won both of their home league games under their new boss by two-goal margins. Another important victory could be on the way then, as whilst Union are still enduring their worst Bundesliga campaign to date, they have at least defeated all three sides who begin the round in the bottom-three by a combined 10-2 scoreline so far this season (W3).

Things looked dire for Darmstadt as they trailed 2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt in the last round before finding the will to avoid defeat to eventually draw 2-2 thanks to a 95th minute equaliser. Although such a draw is exhilarating for the viewing fans, it did also extend their winless run of Bundesliga games to 11 (D4, L7), which leaves them rooted to the foot of the table on their worst run without victory since an identical streak back in 2016/17.

Playing away from home isn’t likely to boost Darmstadt’s hopes of lifting themselves closer to safety either, as their single away league win all season (W1, D2, L5) gives them a stronger travelling record than only Union themselves. Perhaps adding to those away day blues is the fact that the Lilies have never won an away H2H (D2, L1), even though they’ve got on the scoresheet in all three encounters.

Players to watch: Benedict Hollerbach has scored in both of the home league games since Bjelica’s appointment, both of which came between the 50th and 60th minute. As for Darmstadt, Tim Skarke could be the man to ignite any resurgence in form with each of his last three goals for the club serving as equalisers.

Hot stat: Darmstadt are one of only three Bundesliga sides yet to keep an away clean sheet.
