Girona Real Sociedad prediction 2024-02-03

Girona vs Real Sociedad prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2024-02-02 20:00.
Girona will be looking to extend their unbeaten La Liga run to 15 games (W11, D3) when they host Real Sociedad at the Estadi Montilivi on Saturday evening. The hosts should be wary of the visitors as they have beaten them just once since the turn of the century (D7, L3), whilst Sociedad are one of only five teams who Girona have dropped points against so far in their remarkable La Liga campaign.

If recent home games are anything to go by, Girona will come out with a very attacking mindset as their last four competitive matches in front of their fans (one of which was in the Copa del Rey) have delivered 15 goals for the hosts, including an immense 11 before half-time! Unsurprisingly on that note, Míchel’s side went into this round as the leading goalscorers of the division with an average of 2.72 goals per game at home.

Those figures should make for a fascinating contest this weekend as Real Sociedad have been racking up clean sheets, with nine shutouts from their last 12 games (W6, D5, L1) across all competitions. It has been an excellent season overall with just one defeat since early November (W9, D7), and as a reward they have a two-legged Copa del Rey semi-final alongside a Round of 16 tie in the UEFA Champions League to look forward to this month.

Imanol Alguacil’s players have also been clocking up plenty of miles as, due to a quirk of the La Liga fixture and their Copa del Rey success, Sociedad are coming towards the end of a run of 14 away matches out of 18 fixtures! They delivered four victories from five away trips in January and a journey to the north-east corner of the country ought to be little to fear, even if it is against the side that finished last weekend atop the standings.

Players to watch: Cristhian Stuani has scored four goals in his last three appearances and, ominously, Girona have not lost a home game in which he has scored in since the 2018/19 season. Eight of Mikel Oyarzabal’s last nine goals for Sociedad have come in away games, whilst he opened the scoring for his side with seven of those strikes.

Hot streak: Sociedad opened the scoring in each of the last five H2Hs that produced at least one goal.
